Thank you to club member Jerry Ranch for this article recognizing our club's achievements at the 2016 Iowa State Fair! Join us Tuesday, September 6th for our first meeting of the year and a review of the fair.
Again in 2016, the Best of Show photograph comes from a Des Moines Camera Club member, Paul Grillo. His entry, "Sad Clown", was judged best of the 3,642 images submitted to this prestigious juried competition.
Another Club member, Diane Michaud Lowry, was one of only two entrants that achieved the Superintendents Merit Award for Photographic Excellence by having all four of their images selected for exhibition.
Congratulations to Paul and Diane!
While 1,143 photographers submitted entries for the juried show, only 577 have their works on display. Of the exhibited photographers, twenty-eight were from the DMCC. Twenty images from club members were awarded. These include 1st place images from Diane Michaud Lowry, Places and Landscapes and Family Farm; Terri Dermody, Anything Goes! and Architecture. Second place images were from Deb Shoning, Theme-Fog; Barb McGraw, Things and Still Life. Third place entries were from Eric Williamson, Animals, Insects and Wildlife; Jeff Oakley, High Dynamic Range. Honorable mention images come from Shane Abbitt, Jill Armentrout, Christian Ewoldt, Rick McCubbin, Tracy Miksell-Branch, Devita Paschell, Deb Shoning, Dwight Tomes, Terry Kruse and Eric Williamson.
Also chosen for exhibition were images from Penny Adam, Sarah Becker, Bethany Berger, Nancy Heather Brown, Karen Collins, Eric Crall, Diane Darnielle, Patricia Foster, Brent Isenberger, Michael Larsen, Jay Lohner, Greg Punelli, Tammy Mortensen, and Treye Nekola.
Please consult the Salon catalog for more details. The catalog is available for purchase at Christian Photo after the fair.
Established in 1943, The Des Moines Camera Club is dedicated to the pursuit of photographic excellence. Representing all skill levels of photography, the club provides education on the craft of photography and support for creativity. Being a member doesn’t guarantee you success in the Salon, of course. But it’s a great asset to be mentored by experienced members.
